Self Portrait in Green Coat
Oil on canvas
2024
Self Portrait in Green Coat, follows from One Snowy Day, in my exploration of the integration of raw colours to create a greater sense of vibrancy.
This painting depicts myself, following a lecture I collaborative led at Newcastle University.
Here the use of red breaking through is more obvious, with key areas such as my lapel, neck and forehead showing my increased interest in how red especially can offer a great sense of drama within a painting.
The background in particular has a great sense of movement. cutting through the desaturated grey, the viridian green on the centre left mimics the colours within my coat and contrasts against the bold red above it.
