Family Photo was the first painting I made as part of an elective painting course called ‘Responding to Images of the Body’ ran by Art Academy London (AAL), led by Sadie Lee.

I had no idea what to expect when I walked into AAL – something like 20 minutes late due to the train – all I knew was I had to bring some personal photos. It just so happens, my mum is a keen fan of photography and genealogy, so was able to provide me with some interesting photos of my family history, which is where I stumbled upon this lovely photo of my grandpa in his youth with a rather austere looking woman, who I’m more than likely also related to.
